THANK YOU SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT THROUGHOUT MY LEARNING JOURNEY…
Amanda Zanette feels incredibly fortunate to have built a lasting connection with Simon Fraser University, where she completed her BEd, PDP, and MEd. As an alumna, she remains deeply engaged with the SFU community and is grateful for the opportunities to contribute to the field of education.
She was honored to present The City Game at SFU’s Faculty of Education’s 50th Anniversary celebration, sharing her passion for experiential learning with fellow educators. She was also deeply humbled when Dr. Kris Magnusson, then Dean of Education, invited her to join the Dean’s Educational Advisory Committee—a role she accepted with great appreciation.
Zanette continues to welcome student volunteers into her classroom, finding joy in mentoring aspiring educators and supporting students and teachers with their applications to SFU and UBC’s Professional Development and Master’s programs.
Beyond her work in education, she was privileged to serve as a Convocation Senator, thoughtfully reviewing scholarship applications to support future generations of SFU students. In 2019, she was deeply honored to be asked by John Grant to speak as a panelist at the SFU Alumni Association AGM. During the discussion, SFU’s Chancellor made a lighthearted remark that she should lead the country, to which Zanette, caught off guard, responded with a laugh: “Oh, I don’t have time for that.” The audience’s reaction was a moment of shared warmth and humor.

Start Small, Think Global: Infusing the 17 SDGs into Everyday Learning
The first 5 months of 2025 were inspiring and deeply rewarding as part of Kwantlen Polytechnic University's 2025 Professional Learning Committee focused on the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
I'm so grateful for the chance to learn alongside passionate, visionary educators committed to creating real change through education. This experience strengthened my belief in education as a tool for justice and sustainability. With the SDGs visibly posted across my classroom, they naturally became part of our daily conversations ~ sparking curiosity, guiding questions, and helping students see their learning as part of something much bigger.
I watched a shift happen. Students began to feel connected to a global community beyond our classroom, beyond our school, and that connection sparked a genuine desire to take action.
What parts of your teaching already align with the SDGs? Maybe without you even realizing it?
Sometimes, it’s not about doing more, it’s about seeing what you already do through a global lens. Proud to be part of a movement where education doesn’t just inform, it transforms.
